I was really excited to hear that MommyCon was coming to New York. And then I was even more excited to have the opportunity to interview MommyCon’s founder Xza Higgins. I mean, come on, how impressive is it to organize a nation wide convention? And the subject matter?! It is so aligned with my love of being a mom. The conference is about nurturing and educating parents and parents-to-be about natural parenting.
Parents leave the one day conference is more than just a conference to attend. It is an experience. Parents attend workshops and panels, learn about and meet over fifty brands in the Product Showcase Hall, have the chance to win giveaways and connect with other parents that will join their parenting village. I’m a firm believer that our parenting village is always growing. I’m looking forward to growing my village at the NY MommyCon and Xza was kind enough to say I can take two of you!!! Yup, two readers will be getting their very own ticket to MommyCon on March 25th. And trust me you don’t want to miss this. I’m going to fan girl out a bit at the opportunity to meet Jessica from The Leaky Boob!
Before you enter the giveaway get to know Xza a little bit more. I love that the origins of MommyCon began as a blog and living room meet ups. Really great reminder that greatness grows.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was five, I aspired to be an actress. At ten I wanted to be an architect (I was told that girls don’t become architects) and by my early teens I settled on fashion design. However, I was too business-driven to go to fashion school, so I studied a degree in communications which took me down the road to event planning.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
I have some amazing friends that are female leaders within the juvenile products industry. They are pretty badass, and I look to them when I am in need of inspiration.
Who is your biggest supporter?
My biggest supporter are all the moms that attend MommyCon events. They are my community and keep me going.
Three brands other than yours that you support.
We work with some incredible brands within the baby industry, and they have all supported me over the years. Ergobaby, Cotton Babies and Evenflo Feeding have all been truly supportive of my vision over the last four years.
Parenting advice you would like to share.
Try to plan ahead. I believe life deserves a well thought out plan, and when I am able to plan ahead; I can achieve more.
#momguilt – do you feel it? How do you cope?
Mom guilt is real. I’m also struggling to achieve work/life balance. I try to focus on being present during the time I am with my children, and try to maximize our moments together.
