When the posters for the Peter Rabbit movie started popping up JustaBXgirl got very excited. When she saw the trailer she asked if we could see the movie. I’ve occasionally watched Pater Rabbit with JustaBXgirl and I think he’s adorable so of course, I said yes. And what made it even cooler is that we got to see the movie on Blue Jacket Day.
What’s Blue Jacket Day? On February 3rd, participating libraries across the country hosted special Peter Rabbit-themed events and activities. Costumed characters visited libraries and exhibitors hosted blue box book drives, in which families could donate books to RIF. In addition, for every photo posted on social media that included the hashtags #PeterRabbit #BlueJacket, a book was donated to RIF.
Back to the movie, it was so funny. I mean, it does star James Corden so I should not have been surprised. Yet, I’ve never thought of Peter Rabbit as a funny when watching the show with JustaBXgirl. I must confess that I have not read the Beatrix Potter stories that originally brought the character to life.
JustaBXgirl said she enjoyed the movie but that it was very different than the Peter Rabbit she was used to watching. She also said it was a little scary at times for her. If you have been around for some of my other film reviews you know that she is very sensitive to what she watches. She doesn’t like to see characters sad, scared or in situations that they can be harmed.
Will the average child be scared? No. Are there some scenes where characters might find themselves in danger? Yes. I think the movie moves along at a good pace and keeps the viewer’s attention. I like that while we are used to seeing good guys and bad guys in children’s movies this time it wasn’t so black and white.
