Remember how I told you that Halloween wasn’t canceled? I’m here to make sure that you remember that. I know right now the world feels very frightening to many of us. Have you seen the Supreme Court makeup recently? Doesn’t get much scarier than that. I know that I need to fill my cauldron with joy right now and I am not greedy so I want to share the joy with you. Here are a few of the ways that we have and will celebrate one of our favorite holidays in the craziness that has been 2020.
Self Designed Sweatshirts – I always said that I was the most uncreative creative person but this year has made me feel differently. I am creative and as I have shared with JustaBXgirl, everyone can be an artist. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, I have been designing merchandise over on Teespring. This month not only did I design a This Witch Doesn’t Burn sweatshirt (available in multiple styles.) but JustaBXgirl designed her own shirt with other merchandise available, This Little Kitty Might Scratch. They go together purrfectly.
JustAZombieRun – This was probably the highlight of the month for us. We organized this event so that we could celebrate with our friends virtually. We also held an in-person version with Strive Higher that included story time and zombie elixirs from a local juice bar. JustaBXgirl already said that it will be an annual event.
Chocolate Pen Graveyard and Haunted House – This is to be our Halloween Eve event. We were blessed enough to be chosen to be #ChocolatePenAmbassadors and sent a massive box to make this possible. With trick or treating canceled this is such a sweet alternative. We decided to do it the night before Halloween so we can snack on our creations the next day. We are really excited to have chocolate Blume Dolls visit a haunted gingerbread house and graveyard on their own Halloween adventures.
The Wizards of Oakwood Drive – We will be wrapping up our Halloween fun with this virtual immersive theater production. I like that we still can be doing things while keeping safe at home. Going to shows is one of our favorite things to do so being able to attend without being in a crowded theater makes this mama breathe a little easier. And since I have a little star at home I’m figuring she’s going to love this experience.
Spooky Student – JustaBXgirl’s school normally doesn’t allow students to wear costumes to school but since we’re virtual they’re allowing the students to log-in wearing costumes this year. If you know me and JustaBXgirl, then you know that we are guacamole (extra). Being the Guac that we are, we have decided to also decorate her learning space. We have decided to be a bit spooky with a floating witch, some spider webs, and more.
Knock Knock Trick or Treat – I made a joke when we first started talking about Halloween looking different this year. I told JustaBXgirl that she could ring our doorbell a hundred times and I would answer and give her candy since she can’t go trick or treating. Apparently, she didn’t realize I was joking. Guess what this mama will be doing. I will be letting my baby ring the doorbell as many times as she wants and giving her candy. Now, I just have to go buy some candy.
Boo At The Zoo – We went twice. We were supposed to go four times but weather and life happen. It was different but helped remind us that even though things change they still can be fun. I really hope that by next year, we will be in a place where we can get back to parades through the zoo with stilt walkers and beautiful children in costumes. The weather is getting cooler but I have a feeling we will still be visiting the zoo on a number of occasions this fall and winter.
