When we moved into our new apartment, I knew I wanted to set up a space for JustaBXgirl to be able to create. I wanted a spot in the apartment where I wouldn’t fret about paint and stickers and glue and whatever other items she would leave around in her creation frenzy. The first spot we tried didn’t work. It didn’t feel accessible enough to her and she avoided it.
After discussing our options, she chose a new corner of our living room. So now, I sit at my desk to create my art through words and she sits to my left across the room creating her art through whichever form of art she is currently obsessed with. Those obsessions led me to this post. I guess having her creation station near mine has some perks. These are the things currently taking up space and helping her get closer to her first virtual art showcase.
And while she creates, sketches, paints, molds, and more, I sit contently knowing that she is working her hands and her brains. I know that learning doesn’t always happen in a classroom. Learning doesn’t always take place through these ways that we are taught it does. Learning happens when we open our minds to taking in new information. Learning happens when we are brave enough to attempt something for the first time or revisit something left behind. Watching my daughter and her art teaches me that I still have much to learn.
Inkfluencer We Wear Cute Gamer Fashion Pack – JustaBXgirl is beginning to define the type of artist she wants to be when she grows up. One of the spaces she envisions herself is in clothing design. This is an ideal addition to our art area and an ideal addition to any artist’s toolbox that loves fashion. It includes eight different models to design with in mind. It allows the artist to play with different styles, colors and bring paper doll play to a whole new generation in a whole new way. Talk about leveling up! I completely adore that the models look different and littles can create their own stories and backgrounds to go along with the looks they design and why they chose the model to wear it. Everything stores easily as well.
Inkfluencer We Wear Cute Style N Sketch Fashion Journal – Honestly, this entire line is awesome. Those that have littles on TikTok probably already know and love the creators, We Wear Cute. This Sketchs Fashion Journal is the perfect mix of open art play and prompted material. It includes 1 Marker Pen, 1 Sticker Sheet, 5 Metallic Paper Foils, 1 Gem Sheet, 1 Instruction Sheet. The stickers sheet gives littles a specific thing to create when they don’t have anything in mind but they are not limited to only doing the stickers. I appreciate the journal having a pouch to store the included items so that I don’t have to find them all over my home. It also pairs ideally with their Click N Color Marker Set.
Doodle Hog Paint You Own Squishy – JustaBXgirl knows everything about squishy makeovers because she watches every video that Moriah Elizabeth posts on Youtube. She was very excited when this crossed her desk. Doodle Hog has three different versions of their Paint Your Own Squishy. Each comes with all you need to complete the project. Being the artist that she is, JustaBXgirl decided to make it a one-of-a-kind piece by using her own paint. Personally, I really liked the colors that came with the set and use them on my own project.
Chalk Alive – Art doesn’t always have to be permanent. It is always about the creation and only sometimes about the finished product. Chalk Alive does a magical thing by bridging the art with reality. All children love getting outside as the sun warms up and letting their art flow through chalk. And most parents adore not having to find a place to store another art project! This chalk play takes art education a step further. When paired with the Chalk Alive app our artwork comes alive in an augmented reality that continues to exist even after our chalk is washed away!
Creative Roots Paint Your Own Turtle – I love all of the options in the Creative Roots line. From planters to stepping stones there is something to connect you to your inner artist. I love these Paint Your Own animal series because it is like creating a little buddy. Think of Tom Hanks and Wilson but much cuter. They also come with everything you need to complete your project but if your artist is anything like mine then you know that there is plenty that can be added to make your project even more unique. The Unicorn is a big hit but this turtle might be my favorite.
Made By Me Create Your Own Rock Art – We are all about rock art. It is one of JustaBXgirl’s favorite summer activities. She has been doing them for a few years with my cousin during summer break. This year, we will be doing them at home with this awesome set. We might even leave a few around for Bronx Rocks to find!
Go Create! Primary Acrylic Paint – There is never enough paint for a true artist. I like keeping these around because they keep the clean-up crew from having to wash palettes. It is very well portioned for easy use and limited mess. It also teaches little artist how to ration out the amount of paint that they use.
Quirky Collages to Color – I thought this was going to be for me to unwind with but alas, my little artist laid claim. She was super excited about the way the images were collected. There truly are hundreds of hidden images waiting to be discovered and she is here to discover them all! I adore that the book comes with tips on how to achieve certain styles when coloring. This non-creative creative person is always in the market for tips!
