Earth Day has been around since 1970. In our children’s minds that means FOREVER. Yet, while we know that we want to celebrate and work towards protecting this beautiful planet of ours the ideas on how to celebrate it vary. It’s not like other holidays where there is a shortlist of traditions. That makes celebrating it overwhelming for some of us. Too many options might mean we miss out on any of the fun.
Not this year! This year, I am here to bring you 3 ways to celebrate the day that won’t add stress to your life. They are simple ways to make the world better while bonding with your family!
Earth Day Game Night – You know that we are all about Game Night. What better way to celebrate Earth Day than with some fun games that also educate us and prepare us for taking better care of the planet? Adventerra Games has so many options that game night can become game weekend! They have games and puzzles available for all ages starting with pre-school. Right now JustaBXgirl’s favorite is PowerHaus and mine is Polar Adventure. Look for more info on these games in my next Game School Post.
Home Garden – It doesn’t matter the size of your home. You can start a home garden. Windowsills are the perfect place to begin. It is also very much about introducing our littles to the process and the need to respect the Earth and all it gives us. Leaf’d Box has figured out how to make the #easiestgardenever and they will deliver it directly to your doorstep. They also will give you resources to keep your garden healthy. This was so important for us because I have never had a green thumb.
Reusable Water Bottle – We know we shouldn’t be using disposable water bottles yet, many of us are still buying them. If you only find one way to celebrate Earth Day then let it be by quitting disposable bottles and getting yourself a reusable bottle! We are currently loving these Planeterra Bottles from Zak Designs. Zak Designs has a partnership with Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. Both are supporters of environmental stewardship and have helped to remind us that we must make decisions that support the planet. These bottles are made with revolutionary plastic material. They break down toxin-free in 3 to 5 years in traditional landfill environments, leaving behind only gases and trace amounts of water and biomass. Can your water bottle say the same?
Celebrating Earth should be about serving the planet just as much as it is about having fun. I hope that these three ideas help you not only have some fun this Earth Day but also inspire you to do small (and big) things to honor this planet as well.
