Winter Reading List

Winter Reading List

We received some of these titles for review purposes. As always, all opinions are honest and my own. This post contains affiliate links.

Now that the holiday season is wrapping up, I am planning to slow down and cozy up with a book as often as possible. Once the weather starts cooling down, I like to be home as often as possible. Books make great company. I’ve completed 74 books on my GoodReads reading challenge this year. In reality, I read more because I usually include the children’s books I read for review purposes. Do you do an annual reading challenge? Do you have your littles?

I’ve spent my time reading some of the trending series like ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, and From Blood and Ash but that’s not what you will find on this list because you will find those on just about every other list. This list will include books for you, your littles, and your growth. As always, I suggest checking these books out of your library if possible. It keeps the libraries in business and your home less cluttered!

Beautiful Broken Love – This is not your normal dime-store fluffy romance. The romance is there and it is done well but this novel speaks to so much more. It speaks to grief. Normally when you have grief in a romance it feels kind of flat. Not the case here. The friends to lovers road was an emotional journey to take with the characters. Definitely think of bookclubbing this one so you have someone to talk about it with.

Tangles – I’ve always been a huge fan of historical fiction. When done right, it not only tells a strong story but leaves the reader interested in learning more about the time period and topics covered. Kay Smith-Blum succeeds in doing just that, she introduced me to things that I was completely unaware of taking place. It was well researched and the characters felt real. I look forward to reading more from Smith-Blum.

Mixed Feelings – I love this book. When we teach littles about feelings, we tend to simplify them. We share them as singular neglecting how often feelings overlap and tend to be contradictory. This book is a wonderful way to introduce the complexities to littles. It is a great read and conversation starter.

The Interpreter – This book should be in every classroom. Very often children of immigrants are used as interpreters and they kind of become invisible. The interpreters tend to be looked at as extensions of the parents who need them to translate. This book helps them to become visible again. It does a wonderful job of bringing the subject to light. It is also really cool how the family finds ways to make sure Cecilia finds time to be a kid.

The Self-Regulation Workbook for 3-5 Year Olds – This book knows it takes a village to raise a child and it speaks to the entire village. I love that this book gives activities to do with littles as opposed to just letting us know that emotions are normal. Some of these activities can really be done for the not so littles as well. The Keepsake activity is a wonderful one for anyone experiencing a new transition. Think, first day of school, new caretaker, first night away from home, first year at college, first day of a new job. We all can use a reminder of those things and people who love us.

Letters to Never Send Santa – But Christmas is over! Yes, and as we get ready to take down those decorations this is a great way to close out the season. It is full of letters that will have you and your littles giggling and laughing. It can also help them be inspired not to end up in the next edition. We will be adding this to our annual reading list.
