Summer Reading List

This post contains affiliate links. We received some of these titles for review purposes. As always, all opinions are honest and my own.

I have been too busy reading to get this post up any earlier! I have met my reading goal for the year and still have so much left to read! I wanted to share these fun titles that will be good for you and your littles. I’ve added Bookshop links as well as Amazon links so you have options but always remember to suport your local library!

So-Hee and Lowy (Bookshop Link) – Having allergies can make it tought to find a pet. So-Hee was lonely before she found the perfect pet for her, Lowy. This book is a sweet story about finding your place among pets and people. It is also a fun way to make snakes a bit less scary to littles.

Axolotl and Axolittle (Bookshop Link) – I’m so excited to finally get to share this book with you. As you know, axolotls are super special to us. This book is so fun. Here’s a fun sneak peek for you.

Elmo’s Day at the Beach (Bookshop Link) – Just like many of us, Elmo loves to spend a summer day at the beach. In this book, we get to go along for some of the fun. Elmo helps teach us how best to build a sand castle and we get to see the beautiful big one that him and his friends built together. This book is a fun read for before or after a trip to the beach.

When Bumblebees Go to Sleep (Bookshop Link) – This book is illustrated so beautifully as we travel along side our bumblebee friend finding somewhere to sleep. We get to travel and see the beautiful things that Bumble sees as the day comes to an end. It is a wonderful way to continue teaching littles that bees are our friends, while also getting them ready to end their day.

Don’t Disturb the Pirate (Bookshop Link) – This book is a fun adventure to help find Patch the Pup. There’s lots to see along the way as we head toward Blackbeard’s Bay. This is a fun book with lots of rhymes. Hops really enjoys rhymes right now. It’s colorful and is quite the adventure.

Schomburg The Man Who Built A Library (Bookshop Link) – The NYPL has released a 100 anniversary library card celebrating the Schomburg Library. Other than getting a beautiful card, they will give you a copy of this book when you get your card. I thought it would be a simple short version of who Schomburg was and how his library came into existence. Let me share that it is that and so much more. I learned so much more about Schomburg and am so excited that the girls get to learn about him in this in-depth way. I might use this in homeschool this year.

Wait ‘Til Your Older (Bookshop Link) – When Reha gets tired of hearing, “Wait ’til your older,” she decides to do something about it. She’s going to build a time machine! Will she go to the future? The past? When she needs some help making the rocket ship she realizes she needs before the time machine, her big brother shows up and the magic happens.

Hold On to Your Kids (Bookshop Link) – I love that they say they wrote this book to help parents reawaken their natural parenting instincts. When I work with parents as a parenting coach, one of the first things I tell them is that they already know what is best for their families. We have the answers, we just don’t always trust ourselves. This book reminds us of the importance of parents in their children’s lives. I love that this version includes an updated chapter for the digital age and a glossary! I really enjoy glossaries.

The Mystery of Locked Rooms (Bookshop Link) – JustaBXgirl loved this book. She was excited when she saw that we received a copy of it. Here’s what she wrote when I asked her to tell me what it is about:

Twelve-year-old Sarah Greene wants nothing more than to spend seventh grade solving escape rooms with her friends, and that’s what she plans to do. Well, until things go south. She has to move.

The only thing that can stop her from moving is getting the money her family needs. And lucky for her, she finds out how! There’s a legend in her town that an abandoned escape house is hiding a prize. A life-changing prize. And once again, fate is on her side. Sarah and her friends, West and Hannah, are great at escape rooms! With a lot of determination, they decide to beat the escape house. As they always say, “Fortune favors the bold”. But things escalate quickly. This house is harder than any escape room they’ve ever done. Every room in the house seems to be personalized to their weaknesses. Will they have the strength, wits, and talent to win the prize? Just remember fortune favors the bold. And long live the Deltas.
