You might not automatically add toys to your back-to-school shopping list but let me see if I can inspire you to think differently this year. We can blame it on the screens, the lockdowns, or several other things but people today seem to have more trouble focusing. I’ve shared the importance of fidget fun before. I think the beginning of the school year is a great time to revisit that. It is also a great time to gift our littles with open-ended imaginative play that gives us insight into how they deal with the world when we are not with them.
Here are a few things that we are currently playing within our home that I think are great back-to-school toys:
Our Generation Spirit Locker Set – This set is a beautiful way to introduce school to littles. It comes with school supplies that can be stored in the lockers and one of the Surprise Backpacks can be hung on the hook. I have always loved watching JustaBXgirl play with her dolls. It allows me to hear my voice through her lips. When littles play school with dolls, it allows us to hear their teacher’s voice. It allows us to hear their friends’ voices. It allows us to hear the voice they have when we are not allowed.
Bag Clip – When I was young people would collect Jansport strings on their bookbags. I’m not really sure why. There was nothing cute about them. Today, kids are much more stylish and are choosing to add charms to their backpacks. These are a great way to allow littles to express themselves. And it allows them to keep a plushy friend nearby. A few of our favorites to choose from are Deddy Bears, The Sandoichis, and Cookiemonium.
Krumples – These are amazing fidget toys. They don’t come out until October but they are so good that I didn’t want to forget to share later. We got our hands on one at Sweet Suite and JustaBXgirl and I fight over it! Fashion Fidgets are another great fidget toy that allows littles a friend to fidget with.
Punchkins Plushies – I am obsessed with these and want the ENTIRE line. Plushy meets pun! This is the perfect accessory to any dorm room. A great back-to-school gift for a teen that is balancing the crossover from child to young adult. And, most definitely a great back-to-school treat for a favorite teacher. They even have bag charms so you can start with a small collection. You might see these again on a Holiday Gift Guide because they really have something for everyone.
Melissa & Doug Sticker Wow – Hops loves this. I love that she’s learning and is having fun. This is a great toy to keep in the car so the littles can have something to do on the go. It gives the younger littles the opportunity to practice spatial exercises by placing the stickers in the desired circles. It also includes math.
Poe the AI Story Bear – I originally planned to hold onto this for a holiday gift guide but realized that I would be doing you a disservice by waiting. This bear is everything good with AI. Poe is a perfect pal for our littles. Use your phone or tablet to build a story. Poe will handle the rest. Poe will entertain your little with a tale composed just for them. Poe also helps expand your littles vocabulary. It is also one of the softest tech toys I have ever met. It is well worth the surprisingly affordable price.
