Hopefully, Mother Nature is about to give us a steady season instead of the mood swings she has been having. It was difficult for me to think about books for a Spring Reading List while it was still feeling very much like winter outside! Don’t worry, I wouldn’t let you down. I’ve put together a list that your littles will love and even included something for you!

The Space Science Handbook (Bookshop Link) – With Artemis II giving everyone the space bug, I thought this couldn’t wait for a Homeschool post. We will be using this to keep science happening over the summer, but if your littles are excited now about space exploration, don’t wait. This doesn’t feel like learning. Your littles will feel like they are on a space adventure every time they open and read the Captain’s Log. Will they accept the mission?

Rainbow Colors (Bookshop Link) – This book is such a fun way to review colors with littles. It doesn’t just say the color and what is the color. It describes the emotions of the color. It paints the picture of who the color is and where it can be found before showing us the vibrancy of the color. It also reminds us that we are all connected and together are beautiful

Father Humor (Bookshop Link) – Is there anything better than dad jokes? This book not only shares dad jokes you might not already know, but it also breaks down the science of the dad joke. And no, you don’t have to be a dad to master these. JustaBXgirl has threatened to hide this book from me!

Don’t Splash Grandpa (Bookshop Link) – This is the ideal book for all of grandpa’s favorites. You can feel the summer joy through the pages almost as much as you can feel the love these littles have for their grandpa. Don’t tell JustaBXgrandpa but we are including this in his Father’s Day gifts.

Awesome Road Trip Activities For Kids (Bookshop Link) – As you gear up for spending time in the car this summer, whether it’s for a road trip or chauffeuring littles around to camps and playdates, make sure you are prepared. If you don’t want to hear, “Are we there yet,” a million times, make sure to pack this book with you. We are trying to be analog in the car rather than allowing JustabXgirl and Hops to spend car rides on screens. We often play the Alphabet Game, where we search out the windows for the alphabet. This book levels us up. It contains riddles, word searches, ciphered messages, scavenger hunts, and more.

The Mystery of the Blue Train (Bookshop Link) – I love this book so much! It’s a wonderful way to introduce littles to the mysteries of Agatha Christie while keeping things simple. It is also interactive. Each page includes an activity to keep little detectives engaged and on their toes. I wish more books followed this format!

The Octopus (Bookshop Link) – This is a powerful story with no words! The Octopus is beautifully illustrated and tells the story of a day at the beach for a little girl. It is filled with childhood joy, imagination, and even environmental justice. I love this for early readers, or even littles who haven’t learned to read yet, because you can have them read the story to you.

Akiko’s Quiet Happiness (Bookshop Link) – One of my book challenge prompts this year was to read a book taking place in a country not my own. This book checked the box, and I am happy to have experienced it. This is the type of book that stays with you well after you finish it. It was originally written in German and translated into English. It’s a powerful story about grief, and about friendship, and our relationship with the world itself.
