While the weather outside has truly been frightful, I have been able to curl up with my weighted blanket and good books. Here are a few that have been picked up while we’ve been trying to keep warm. Is it Spring time yet?

Illusions of Trust (Bookshop) – I love the vibe of this book. I felt instantly transported into the action. I’m looking forward to reading more of Russell Palmer and Robbie White’s adventures. The pages will fly by as you get caught up in this case.

Rose Dhu (Bookshop) – Sit back and prepare yourself for quite a few twists and turns. Just when you think you got it figured out, trust me, you don’t. This is the type of mystery that comes alive in no time. I would love to see it as a movie.

Can You Find Steve? (Bookshop) – Hops has been obsessed with seek-and-find books lately. This one is really good. I love that Hank hides on every page as well so little seekers have something easier to search for. This book comes with your own tiny ducks to hide and seek!

Ocean Activities for Kids (Bookshop) – JustaBXgirl has chosen marine biology for her science two years in a row. I love that this book gives her ways to do “ocean experiments” without leaving our home. This book contains 20 lessons separated into six chapters, allowing us to become more familiar with the ocean and its inhabitants.

What Kind of Shoes Does a Hippopotamus Choose? (Bookshop) – This is a funny and fashionable read. Of course, some cats would want to wear kitten heels! This is the type of read that an adult will enjoy as much as a little. Do you think you know what kind of shoes a hippopotamus would choose?

The Central Park Irregulars (Bookshop)– I appreciate that this book doesn’t speak down to littles. It is middle-grade fiction that trusts that littles will be able to connect to the history, the mystery, and the characters. It’s NYC-based, so it is always fun for us to be able to picture exactly what and where a writer is describing.

What Makes You Happy? (Bookshop) – It’s almost Avery’s birthday, and she has to decide what to do. She spends so much time worrying about what her friends would want to do that she almost forgets to think about what would make her happy. This book does a wonderful job of helping littles think that there needs to be a balance in friendships. It is also a reminder that it is not always selfish to think about what makes you happy!

The Six Queens of Henry VIII (Bookshop) – JustaBXgirl and I went to see Six the Musical in 2024, and that opened her interest into the Tudor Queens. This book was a perfect addition to our library. It shares information about each of the six women in a way that makes them complete and shows that they were extraordinary beyond Henry. It makes history digestible.
