Summer Reading List

Summer Reading List

This post contains affiliate links. We received some of these titles for review purposes. As always, all opinions are honest and my own.

We are already more than halfway through the year! How are those reading goals going for you? I’m excited that I have stuck with my reading journal for the most part and am happily ahead of my reading goal for the year. In case you wondered, I do not count children’s books in my tracking. The books I share here are for you. I consider them books that I’m either reading to Hops, reading for research purposes, or reading to determine where they go next. After JustaBXgirl and I read the books for review purposes, we decide if they will be added to our at-home library, donated to local free library shelves, sent home for Hops’ home library, or share dout to other friends as gifts. We wish we could keep them all, but we run out of shelves every once in a while. I’ve recently taken to watching book unhaul videos on Youtube. Maybe the next time we clean out our shelves, I should do our own unhauling video!

Anyway, enough rambling. You are here to see what we are reading this summer. And where did this summer go? I started this post mid June then blinked, and we have crept into August! Here are some good reads for you and your littles! Let’s hold onto summer a little longer.

Mermaid Sleepover (Bookshop Link) – They had us at mermaids. We love that there is so much to do when reading this book. As our mermaid friends drift off to sleep, we are able to do things like find treasure chests and count whales. It is a very interactive read to countdown and get your little mermaid ready for bed.

Coat of Many Colors (Bookshop Link) – Dolly Parton is a national treaure. Somehome, I had never heard of this book. Can I tell you I claimed it as my own before JustaBXgirl or Hops could even think of fighting over it. I hope this book brings you good luck and happiness every time you read it!

Nerd Girl News – The Science of Standing Out as a Girl in STEM (Bookshop link) – We were super excited to receive this when we found out that one of our favorite Instagrammers now had her own book series!!!!! Lucy at Nerd Girl News has made science and learning about current events interesting for JustaBXgirl for a few years now. She couldn’t wait to read through this adventure and is looking forward to many more.

Your Presence is a Danger to Your Life (Bookshop Link) – Speaking of current events. I know we like to keep summer reads light but it is important to acknowledge the privilege in that. This book is heavy. It is filled with lived experiences that we must acknowledge. 26 real people share their stories in the pages of this book. I implore you to read. I implore you to empathize. I implore you to ask what we as a people can do.

Soccer Smarter for Kids (Bookshop Link) – This book is for kids to learn how to play soccer better. I used it as a guide book to learn how to speak the language of one of my godsons. He lives and breathes soccer. I know it is played with a black and white ball. This books helps to close the gap!

Princess Penelope’s Purse of Preposterous Things (Bookshop Link) – In this book, we learn how Princess Penelope gets crowned Princess of Kindness and receives her purse of proposterous things. I hadn’t heard of Princess Penelope before receiving these but am excited to join her fandom. These books are colorful, creative and fun.

Dragon’s Marshmallow Mess (Bookshop Link) – Another ball, another adventure for Penelope and her friends. I enjoyed getting to see the background characters from the first book be more involved in this adventure. We look forward to continuing the series. It’s one that Hops and I will read together for a long time.

Dinos Love Donuts (Bookshop Link) – Warning! Do not read this book hungry. These donut loving dinos will have you wanting a sweet treat of your very own. Don’t worry dinos, I’ll eat the donut holes. There’s nothing to fear! Donut holes are much tastier, and safer than rocks.

Highlights Spot The Imposter Puzzles (Bookshop Link) – We use highlights books like these as brain breaks. I love that they are learning games that entertain both JustaBXgirl and Hops. They are also a fun way to bond together as a family. Highlights was part of my childhood and it excites me that it has been a part of my daughter’s as well. Were you able to spot the imposter on the cover?
