#HiHomeschool – Make Music Count

We received these workbooks for review purposes. As always, all opinions are honest and my own.

Being a homeschool mama means I am constantly looking for new ways to make learning engaging and fun without sacrificing the content. I also am usually on the lookout for ways to merge subject matter. I also like when we use products and curriculum that we can tell our traditional school friends about. I’ve found a special one in Make Music Count. It checks the boxes and then some!

Make Music Count started as an afterschool program developed and led by Marcus Blackwell, Jr.. Make Music Count allows students to use creativity to reach their educational potential. Marcus figured out a way to allow us to bring his afterschool program into our homes. The reality is that programs like these should be available to every child, in every school and in every home.

Homeschooling allows me to find new ways to teach things. It allows me the freedom to accept and honor that everyone learns differently. Make Music Count honors this as well. Used as a tool to enhance lessons, it doesn’t expect or call for everyone to learn the same way. It even understands that finances can make a difference in homes.

There is a FREE app available for download in app stores. You can use the app entirely for free or you can upgrade to a subscription plan that allows you a backend portal to easily track your child’s progress. The app includes over 1,500 songs. Using songs they are familiar with, students solve math puzzles using the piano keyboard. Don’t worry, you don’t need to own a piano to use the app or the workbooks. Oh, I haven’t shared about the workbooks yet!

See, there really is something for everyone. If you prefer your learning to happen offline, you can still bring Make Music Count home. In addition to the app, Make Music Count allows you to purchase individual workbooks or bundled kits which include a personal keyboard to take learning offline and keep it at your fingertips. We use the workbooks during our screen-free workdays as a way to practice and review math. The workbooks also allow JustaBXgirl to get comfortable with the keyboard she recently received. She is focused on reviewing the math and getting the puzzles completed that she is also remembering certain keys and the sounds they make.

Personally, I have her working on one book at a time. She is currently making her way through Understanding Fractions. We both agree that this is a great way for her to solidify what she already knows. I love the visual and tactile learning aspect. Your little learner might prefer jumping from book to book based on songs. I also appreciate that they give learners the opportunityto self evaluate where they are on their math journey.

If you’re thinking you would want more than one workbook, I suggest checking out the kits which all include keyboards. Piano Prodigy is a great deal. I considered holding onto this until my Homeschool Holiday Gift Guide because this is the type of thing that littles and their bigs can appreciate. What little doesn’t dream of starting a band? This will get them on their way and make sure they know how to divide the profits when they start rolling in!
