I thought by now that I would miss going to movie theaters but I don’t. At least, I don’t miss them a lot. I love the way that movie studios have pivoted this past year and found ways to keep us watching new films in new ways. We’ve gone back to the theaters about two times since that have opened back up and we enjoyed the experience but not as much as we enjoy curling up in bed watching movies with the ability to pause and talk through them. I, for one, hope that early access and quick to DVD doesn’t end anytime soon. Here’s what we checked out this month.
Barbie: Big City, Big Dreams – It is Barbie. Do I need to say anymore? She’s out of the dreamhouse and into the Big City. This is a fun film where the lesson isn’t about getting ahead but about working together. These two Barbies learn to do just that. Yup, I said, two Barbies. Barbie Roberts from Malibu meets Barbie Roberts from Brooklyn and these two quickly become BFFs. It’s available to stream now on Netflix.
Jungle Cruise – Disney and The Rock. You knew I was going to love this one. I have to admit that I’m silly and my most favorite part is when Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson says, “The backside of the water.” If you are a true Disney person that line is everything to you. Seriously though, this movie rocked in many ways with Emily Blunt kicking butt as a top one. JustaBXgirl was loving her character from the start. I love anytime my child gets to see a strong female lead on screen. I also have to admit that I didn’t see some of the story coming which is always awesome for me. If you’re looking for a family night watch then check it out.
Spirit Untamed – We have been Spirit fans forever. This film reignited our excitement for the franchise. It is filled with adventure, family, friendship, and forgiveness. It was funny, sweet, and full of me looking at JustaBXgirl and saying, “Don’t think about ever doing anything like that.” Great for a movie night pic and now available on digital, DVD, and blu-ray.
Free Guy – Have you ever played SIMS? Have you ever thought about what if you are the character in someone else’s SIMS game? Well, that’s what happens here. Ryan Reynolds plays a bank teller named Guy that discovers he is a supporting player in an open-world game and decides he will be getting an upgrade to hero. This movie is hilarious. You can imagine the foolishness that transpires as he tries to save his world. The movie is currently available to own digitally so you can check out the shenanigans on your own.
F9 – The Fast & The Furious franchise is definitely about cars but it is also all about FAMILY. I think that’s why I love it. As always, there are tons of, this can’t be real moments. Let’s be real though, we don’t watch these movies because they can be real. We watch them for the action…and the cars. F9 is now available to own so check it out for an action movie night at home.
